Display - Disguise - Distract

Display: Display your best bits. If you have great legs, don’t cover them in trousers constantly. Show ‘em off in a skirt which has some movement to it, team it with eye-catching tights. If you have a wonderful cleavage, pamper the skin in that area and draw the eye with a necklace that falls just above it. Make the most of beautiful hands by wearing bracelets and three quarter length sleeves. If you have a long neck wear mandarin collars (because you can).

Disguise: Disguise your least loved bits. If your waist has thickened out and your shape has become more rectangular, wear a top or dress with an empire line, try a belt at hip line rather than at the waist line, use vertical pinstripes to elongate your silhouette and avoid horizontals anywhere near where your waist used to be. Play with diagonals, asymmetrical patterns and styles to send the eye on a journey of adventure.

Distract: Distract the eye away from your “problem” areas. Especially whilst you’re trying to lose weight in certain areas, draw attention to your face with interesting necklines and jewellery. Get a new haircut and chose earrings to compliment your colouring – pearls are always a great idea for highlighting the face.

The 3D Guide can be applied to virtually every aspect of dress to help you overcome “problem” areas. Use one, two or all three of them to play with your shape and colouring. I promise you will find at least one new way of looking at yourself and your clothes if you work within these guidelines. Watch out for more tips from the 3D Guide in forthcoming newsletters.
